Excellent story, engaging style, true to life at that. While the author is set on trying to die trying, luckily he makes it through to deliver this book. From the core sweat drenched trials and trails in the jungle with big cats, monkeys and caiman (whatever they are) to the dusty towns and haphazard travels, it's a tale worth the effort and money to experience. And as for the money, proceeds support the animals at the rescue organization discussed in the book.
A travel narrative I couldn't put down! The Bolivian jungle is brutal, stunningly beautiful, tedious, and makes you fall in love in ways you never thought possible. Stu describes his time with the animals, jungle, and fellow volunteers in Parque Ambue Ari--a refuge and rehab for wild animals stolen at birth and rescued--with humor, self deprication, and a wonder for the world that is true and heartfelt. It is a joy to immerse yourself in this book and get to know it's characters. As a former volunteer myself (2009, Maggie and Sama), his words are true. There really isn't anything quite as wonderfully strange as waking up on a filthy straw mattress to the sound of howler monkeys.
