In this story we have Regan, who decided to become a mail order bride. Which is kind of apropos, since she drove the mail wagon in Arizona. Regan moves all the way Wyoming, before it was a state, to marry a widower. Who is also one few doctors in the area, named Colton, with a six year daughter. Regan is everything the doctor really did not understand. Regan has Colton all twisted inside and out with feelings he did not know he had.Colton needed a mother for his daughter, Anna. He thought Regan was going to be quiet and peaceful like his first wife. Regan turned out to be everything he didn't know he needed or wanted. Seeing the love develop between Regan and Colt was very touching. Regan came there to be a mother to Colt's daughter, but she wanted to be his wife too.Beverly Jenkins books have never disappointed me. I wait for her books faithfully to hit the shelves and I have read every book she has written. Her books are always multi-cultural. I have learned quite a bit history . This is definitely a romance novel. And I loved it.
This is bittersweet sweet ending as I want Spring and Dovie to have their own story. But most of all I appreciate the history lessons found throughout this passionate tale.As for Reagan and Colt, can you say fire and ice. Yes, when the fire was lit their was no turning back. What I appreciated most was the mutual love that developed. As it was key to see physical attraction go through the bedroom and into an emotional connection. It was then love was able to bloom. Little Anna was key to tying Reagan and Colt together, as her happiness allowed them to go beyond themselves to make their relationship blossom.You'll smile, you'll become misty eyed, but most of all you'll love seeing a woman walk in her truth and be unapologetic about it.
Jenkins bring the Old West series to a close by whipping readers into a frenzy. Tempest bookends the trilogy superbly, but leaves room for other buds to possibly bloom if Jenkins chooses to revisit the Old West again. Ever the master Slayer of Words, Jenkins leaves the reader demanding books for characters that will remain unnamed!Now about the book.After corresponding by letter the adventurous Regan, mail order bride, blows into Dr. Colton Lee’s life, an accomplished small-town physician, widower and ever logical man of science dispossessed of passion, literally knocking him off his high horse so to speak! Armed with a rifle and plenty of attitude Regan is more than a notion for Dr. Colton Lee. Regan isn’t the submissive bride he’s hoping would show up, but he has bigger fish to fry Anna, his daughter, needs a mother since like yesterday!Jenkins does terrific job of pairing these two together despite Dr. Colton Lee’s misgivings upon their initial meeting. Jenkins does not have the characters play a game of cat and mouse much to my pleasure, but the romance is a slow burn until it isn’t! Regan is a woman of desire and full of surprises and compassion. She gently opens the good doctor’s world, as well as, his daughter. Both are combating sorrow and oppressive relatives.The book also adds a bit of tension with suspense: a shooting and some haters not so happy Regan is in town. If anyone knows anything about Mrs. Jenkins she uses real historical events and/or facts to add a deeper texture and context to her novels. A riot takes places that echoes through time and mirrors our own immigration debate today. Jenkins masterfully handles this piece of history without being overly didactic. In addition, to highlighting micro aggressive and explicit racism and how its impact is a double-edged sword; affecting those perpetrating the notion and its victims. And finally, a recurring theme: community. She ALWAYS has a band of people fighting to support each other. Adding an inspirational flavor to each of her novels.Purchase this book!
I loved the final installment to the Fontaine Series. Tempest's hero and heroine, Regan and Colt, were wonderful together despite their tough start. As always, Ms. Jenkins has a way of pulling a reader into the story. I feel like I'm in the story with the characters, as if in a movie at times. The poignant relationship with Colt's daughter Anna is so well drawn. I loved how Regan brought Anna out of her shell and showed her to embrace life with everything she had while at the same time letting Anna make the leaps when she was ready to make them. And she did the same with Colt, with humor and determination. The relationship between this mail-order bride and her doctor husband grew organically for me with amazing, sensual love scenes, witty dialogue, and genuine respect and trust. As always, Ms. Jenkins brings expert research into the historical drama as it unfolds and I continue to learn more about this country's volatile history while enjoying a great romance with fabulous characters.Double thanks for the reunion at the end. I loved seeing the characters from the first two books one more time.I can't wait to read Ms. Jenkins' next work of fiction. I highly recommend!
Not my favorite Beverly Jenkins book but it scratches my itch just the same. Her formula hasn’t changed much in 20 plus years but I’m not looking for life changing prose when I open a B. Jenkins book. I always learn something and fall in love a bit with her characters, that was my one complaint I didn’t fall in love with Dr. Lee as I typically do with her male leads. I recommend but I probably won’t reread this one as many times as I’ve reread “Wild Sweet Love†and “Indigo.â€
