This book is a good step-by-step guide to learning pastel painting from the masters for example Edgar Degas. Not every master's example is painted with pastel, some are oil paintings. But the author wants to explain the basics concerning the choice of colour, composition, the contrast between dark and light partsand so on, so that afterwards in so called tutorials the student gets a step-by-step support painting similar motives. In the last chapter the book contains a very good instruction for pastel techniques.
