Where has this author been all my life? I receive multiple emails that alert me of books that are free and on sale, and this just happened to be one of them. I downloaded it on a whim and wasn’t sure if I was going to like it (because I loathe stories where the couple fights the majority of the novel which I what I originally thought this story was going to be.) I stayed up all night reading it. And when I was done? I bought the second and stayed up even longer reading that one.I was not ready for this deliciously raunchy roller coaster. First, the characters = amazing. I loved every single one. I identified a lot with Helly and could easily place people I knew as the other characters. I made the mistake of starting this novel when I should have been going to bed. I literally laughed out loud the entire novel. It’s good thing my fiancé is a heavy sleeper.Marlow writes an amazing story filled with hilarious and interesting characters, creative vengeance, and deliciously dirty scenes. Helly and Gary have such chemistry, I thought I was about to get burned. I also wasn’t expecting the twist at the end. I knew something was up but I wasn’t quite sure where it was heading.Overall, Two Cabins One Lake is everything you didn’t know you were looking for. Lots of laughs and adventure (both in and out of the bedroom), and characters with more personality than I have read in long time.

All I have to say is thankfully this book was free, because if I had paid for it I would be extremely upset. Ridiculous story, unreal characters, way too many sex scenes. Apparently this is not my cup of tea.

Funny, steamy, slightly suspenseful and pure fun. I was pleasantly surprised at this one, which I picked up for free so my expectations were pretty moderate. Helly is smart and funny, with a filthy mouth and filthier imagination. She's a slightly awkward loner, but tough enough to survive living alone in the Alaskan bush. She has a penchant for sarcasm, a vindictive streak, and an unwanted attraction to her hated neighbor Gary. I found Helly to be very well written, and an engaging, entertaining heroine. Gary was tall, dark-haired, built and handsome. He was more of the stereotypical hero, but he did have a secret that was worth exploring, and he was a charming and inventive counterpoint to Helly's more impulsive nature. As other reviewers have pointed out, there's a lot of sex in this book. A lot. It has a nice slow build, but once they finally get to it, that's pretty much all they do for a while. It's a little too much for me, and the language is more coarse and vulgar than I prefer. But the story keeps clicking along, and I was more engaged with it when it was about Helly and Gary's tit-for-tat revenge schemes, Helly's relationship with her brothers (who were a welcome addition to the story), and Gary's mysterious past and looming secrets. So for me, all that sex wasn't necessary. But I enjoyed it nonetheless, and would certainly consider picking up more books by this author.

I was raised in Alaska, and by the way Shaye writes this story, I feel like she was too (haven't checked yet). She has written so many of those little quirks that Alaskans have that many outside of the state really dont know about. It's not generic "oh look how pretty the mountains are and there's snow" but those specific wild blueberries and how we deal with bears and our reactions to earthquakes. Some were literal sayings that I was taught and had grown up with. All those small details made the story for me.Also, the way she wrote the dialogue and inner dialogue for our leading lady. She's a romance writer, and occasionally she THINKS I'm the same language she would use in one of her novels (mostly recognizing it and noting it) but never speaks it. Or when she does, it's by total accident. As a romance writer, I related to her on so many levels and laughed as she said things the same way my own mind works occasionally.I will be buying the rest of the series!

I love enemies to lovers romances, and I love when it happens in cold climates. There's something attractive about the possibility of getting stuck in a cozy environment with someone you don't get alone with initially. Honestly, this book had all of the ingredients I needed in order to love it...except likable characters with mental maturities beyond that of 6th graders.Helly is horrible. Some people are put off by her awful (AWFUL) personality while others are put off by her constant griping. I could forgive either of those things if she actually knew what it meant to hate someone. She 'hates' Gary the same way a boy 'hates' the cute new girl sitting in front of him in class. The correct words are 'begrudgingly obsesses over'. Gary does some truly annoying and rude things when he first moves in, and Helly lets us know exactly how she feels about those things in excruciating detail within her own mind (90% of what is read takes place in there). The problem is that the criticisms are seldom made without also mentioning in agonizing detail how attractive he is or how attracted she is to him. This was an early warning sign that I would not be getting a story of two adults who grow as people as they work through their differences and find that they are more alike than not. I'd be getting a story about two people who end up getting it on on multiple occasions despite their better judgement and their coitus being what holds them together. Not, I dunno, growing the f up.I didnt finish the story. I stopped reading at 18% and skimmed to the first sexual encounter at 21%. By then, I just didn't care. Her wording is a little crass in places when describing sexual actions, but it doesn't turn me off. What turns me off is body betrayal. The minute body betrayal enters the picture, I check out. That's all their 'chemistry' is. You have every reason not to like someone , but the brain between your legs doesn't care. It's LAZY. What's the point of reading further? I've already been shown that the protagonist has no real spine. Then again, she doesn't actually hate the man. She's just being a petulant child about him, preferring to betch and moan to the audience about how loud he is until a FRIEND has to tell her that maybe -- just MAYBE -- she should walk up to him and ASK him to turn things down a bit.I don't need to read the rest of the book to know that this is a pattern that is going to keep repeating. He's going to do something annoying. Instead of discussing things, she's going to get annoyed and try to get even by damaging/sabatoging his property (he's rich, so it's okay...if you have a child's mind). Shenanigans ensue followed by sex that both characters will walk away from wishing it hadn't gone down. Maybe I'll pick it back up and bother finishing it for the sake of closure. However, in my opinion, I'd spend money on something else.
