I belong to a group of ladies of a "certain age" who have been studying French together for 8 years. We read La Vol de la Joconde maybe 4 years ago and are re-reading it now It is one of I believe 5 books by the same author and I could recommend the entire series, especially if you read them in order. The first, Une été pas comme les autres, is all in the present tense so it is a good place to start. La Vol is not for a beginner per se but the really unfamiliar words are defined in the margins.. The stories, while on a younger person's level, are still interesting for a non-native speaker of French of any age.
A story of the theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre is told over a series of chapters, each of which is followed by a set of exercises. The exercises are geared to testing your comprehension of the chapter's text and vocabulary as well as your recall of key phrases. Probably best for those with an intermediate level of French vocabulary and grammar.
Very good way to practice reading. captivating story that keeps the class' interest. Looking for more from this author.
My daughter was reading this book in French class, and struggling with it. Unfortunately, the school would not let the kids take the books home, so I decided to buy a copy on Amazon. The book never arrived. Despite being marked as In Stock, the delivery date was updated twice (I believe) to push the expected date out, with no communication whatsoever from the seller, aside from an e-mail notification that my item had shipped on 17 November. When I finally threw up my hands in frustration last week (especially since they have since finished the book at school), I contacted the seller to request that the transaction be canceled. No response from the seller whatsoever. I filed a claim with Amazon, which they processed in less than 24 hours with excellent communication and a full refund. Love Amazon, but I will never do business with Akademos again. Buyer beware!
the book arrived on time and in such good condition it was a stretch to call it a "used" book. It looks like it had never been handled.
