First of all, I want to make it clear that I am by no means an expert on chinese herbs (or any other herbs for that matter). However, that being said, I still feel very confident when saying that this is truly a invaluable resource, containing a wealth of information, on so many levels. The book rests on the solid and ancient tradition of traditional Chinese medicin, a 5,000 year old tradition emphasizing holistic healing. What this means, in this case, is that whatever is going on with us internally, will ultimately manifest itself in our skin. The reason for this is becuase our skin is so closely linked to our innermost organs. The author offers a lucid understanding of how Chinese herbs can heal, clear up and brighten up our skin. More specifically, we are given a solid explanation of ten particular herbs that can do wonders for the quality of our skin. However, in actuality, this book goes above and beyond any skin-related issues that you may be experiencing; it delves so much deeper - to the heart of it all. This is because in order for you to be able to effectively treat and nourish your skin, you first have to know your own body. You have to become acutely aware of your own true being, of what makes it tick, and of what clogs up your pores so to speak. In this regard, the author has just set herself apart from the rest of the competition by miles and miles. Cause not only do we as readers get a solid understanding about what can be done herb-wise to better the condition of our skin, but more importantly, we are given the gift of getting to know our bodies (perhaps for the first time). One passage that I particularly enjoyed was one in which the author posed an intriguing concept in response to a common skin-related question. When answering the question on how we should go about improving our skin, the author implies that before we can answer that question, we first have to ask ourselves if we really know our bodies well enough. Fascinating! So simple, yet so easily overlooked.ANother thing that I really appreciated in reading this book, was the fact that we need to consider, not only herbs pertaining to our skin, but at the same time we also have to apply a balanced dietary routine and work on improving our overall lifestyles. The underlying message is clear: Chinese medicine carry with them tremendous benefits, but they are by no means a quick-fix. And this is because we, as human beings, are not a quick-fix. It takes considerable time and effort in order to get to know ourselves; the ins and outs of out bodies and minds, but along with that time and effort come great results.I would recommend this book to anyone out there who are interested in improving, not only their skin, but themselves, on so many levels. All in all, a delightful read!

I am very excited to be the first reviewer here!I first got exposed to Tracy over at her blog and I was very satisfied with the quality of information she presents there. This is why I was very excited when I saw she wrote a book on TCM. I ordered it straight away. I am a big believer in holistic medicine. I do know the basics of Ayurveda but TCM is quite new to me. At first I thought it would be complicated, but the way Tracy explains it, it's actually easy and makes sense. The first part of the book (about 30%) is more theory to get you introduced, but don't worry, it's easy to get and very absorbing. Then, there is the practical part. You will also find the recipes that the author uses herself. If you are looking for a quality book, you have just found one. When it comes to TCM, I prefer to learn from Chinese natives who know their stuff, and Tracy Huang is one of them! The book also includes a free bonus which is an assessment of your body type ( something that in ayurveda is called dosha, but now I am more interested in TCM than ayurveda, lol!). I am satisfied with this order, very satisfied.

Herbal medicines are widely used in Asia and all over the world but Chinese herbs are most well-known because I believe China was one of the very first countries to have culture in medicine.I learned that TCM does not merely focus on healing but on obtaining well-being and health in a harmonious way, that is where Yin and Yang comes in. In fact it's only by this book that I've known about what Yin and Yang really stand for, I never have known that they have important functions in Chinese food therapy too. This book is very informative. The different body constitution, charts and website links (which I am planning to share with my friends who are having few skin problems) were very helpful. I admire the way the author wrote about the 10 Chinese herbs, the information there are really valuable. The recipes came quite surprising to me but it was very convenient. This book is organized and I can sense that the author diligently researched and worked hard to come up with this book, also very smart and knowledgeable. This book is well-written and really worth the read!

Huang did a great job in this book.As I have expected from this book, it really did helped me a lot in learning moreabout Chinese herbs and its uses. I never ever imagined that there would be awide use of these types of herbs, especially for beauty purposes, which is theawesome part of the book. Who could also tell, because of this book, I was ableto know its history and where it originated from! And on top of that, I also came to know more about the Traditional Chinese Food Therapy! All in all, this is really an awesome grab for someone who wants to know more about the ChineseHerbs, really worth the money I've spent! Kudos!

I never knew anything about the energies of plants and foods, such as Yin versus Yang foods and a lot of other concepts I learned from this one. It seems TCM has some familiarities with body chakras, mandalas and energy systems as discussed in other far eastern philosophies. I don't know if I am convinced to start grinding herbs to cure ailments yet, but the book seems to also be grounded in nutrition, with another way of looking at the concept of maintaining a balanced lifestyle and not neglecting certain food groups or risk becoming deficient in one area. Anyway, this one's worth checking out.
